Telecommunicator of the Quarter

Alex Bateman Recognized as Telecommunicator of the 2nd Quarter

A group poses for a photo during a meeting, recognizing achievements related to the Teller County Sheriff's Office.

Please congratulate Alex Bateman, from the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, for being recognized as Telecommunicator of the 2nd Quarter!

"On March 23, 2026, Telecommunicator Alex Bateman received a 911 call from a suicidal caller just outside of Cripple Creek. The caller was in clear distress, and Alex was able to remain on the line with the caller for over one-half of an hour until units arrived on the scene, keeping the caller stable and communicative.

"Although the caller expressed suffering from several mental illnesses, Alex treated the caller with patience and compassion, reassuring the caller while still getting all pertinent scene safety questions answered for responder safety (without upsetting the caller further). At one point, the caller had accidentally disconnected, and Alex was able to call back and get reconnected to the caller to continue helping him.

"While Fire and Medical responders were staging in the caller's line of sight, causing a momentary escalation, Alex successfully mitigated the situation. He relayed this information to the room so resources could be moved, while calming the caller until help arrived.

"He was able to demonstrate patience with the caller and show empathy throughout the duration of the call, getting them through one of the toughest days of their life. Alex is an example of how an Emergency Services Telecommunicator can be the calm in a storm and is therefore deserving of this award."

Way to go, Alex!
